Mouth and throat
The mouth is an opening in the body that is used for food intake, breathing and voice production. It is also the uppermost part of the digestive tract.
The pharynx is an extension lined with mucous membrane that connects to the oral and nasal cavities and designates the upper respiratory tract.
If you have to clear your throat constantly and your voice no longer has its usual strength due to hoarseness, this can be attributed to both medical and psychological causes. From a medical point of view, the ENT doctor assesses whether it is a swelling of the vocal cords, vocal cord nodules or polyps, for example. In these cases, surgery is performed through the mouth under general anaesthesia. In most cases, this operation can also be performed on an outpatient basis.
