Paranasal sinuses

The sinuses include the frontal sinuses, maxillary sinuses, ethmoid sinuses and sphenoid sinuses.

Inflammation of the mucous membrane lining these sinuses is called sinusitis.

If you feel pressure or pain in your face or ears, if you leak excessive (possibly also purulent) nasal secretions or if your sense of smell is diminished, such an inflammation may be present. After the examination and clarification, the doctor will advise you on treatment measures and, if necessary, an operation. This is done with the help of an endoscope which is inserted through the nostrils and is therefore less stressful for the patient.

Extensive sinusitis that does not respond to medication is called chronic sinusitis. These can only be treated with a combination of surgery and medication.
