Facial pain

Patients often describe this type of pain as "wandering" because it can spread across the entire visual field without a (conscious) trigger. The pain starts unilaterally in the area of the upper jaw, can extend around the mouth and nose to the chin, and can also extend to the neck. A side-switching sensation of pain is also described. Sensory disturbances, increased pain when exposed to heat or cold, or numbness in certain areas are also possible.

The causes are very diverse, so we will not list any examples here. In any case, a specialist examination and consultation, also interdisciplinary, is necessary. The patient is questioned in detail about the complaints and should be able to give as detailed a description as possible.

As a result of the diagnosis, the aim is to make a clear classification of the pain and, as a result, to eliminate possible causes.
